Worked example
Standing on February 28, 2024, how long until March 1, 2024?
- 2024 is a leap year, so February has a 29th day. Feb 28 to Feb 29 is 1 day, and Feb 29 to Mar 1 is another: 2 days remaining
- In weeks: 2 days is 0 weeks and 2 days
- In hours: 2 × 24 = 48 hours
In a non-leap year the same two calendar dates would be only 1 day apart, which is why the leap day has to be counted rather than assumed.
How this calculator works
The count is whole calendar days from the start of today to the start of the target date, so it changes once at midnight rather than ticking down by the second. Weeks are whole weeks of 7 days, with the leftover days shown separately.
Common questions
What happens if I pick a date in the past?
The calculator switches to counting up: it shows how many days, weeks, and hours have passed since that date instead. Handy for anniversaries of the "how long has it been" kind.
Does the countdown count today itself?
No. If your target is tomorrow, the answer is 1 day, not 2. The count measures full days between the start of today and the start of the target date.
