Worked example

A car tire at 32 psi: 32 x 6.8948 = 220.6 kPa, which is 2.206 bar. The door jamb sticker on most Canadian cars lists both units. Enter 32, choose psi, then choose Kilopascals to see 220.63 kPa.

Frequently asked questions

What is standard sea level air pressure?

One atmosphere: 101.325 kPa, 14.6959 psi, or 760 mmHg. Environment Canada reports sea level pressure in kPa, typically between 98 and 104 kPa.

Is bar the same as atmosphere?

Close, but not the same. One bar is exactly 100 kPa, while one atmosphere is 101.325 kPa. The difference is about 1.3 percent, which matters for gauges but not for weather.
