Vehicle Range Calculator
How far a full tank takes you, using a blend of your city and highway consumption.
Worked example
A 50 L tank, city 9.0 and highway 6.5 L/100 km, with the slider at 50% city, blends to 7.75 L/100 km. Range is 50 / 7.75 x 100 = 645 km. At $1.50 per litre a full tank costs $75.00, and driving costs $11.63 per 100 km.
Formula
Blended consumption = (city rate x city share) + (highway rate x highway share). Range = tank litres / blended rate x 100. Full tank cost = tank litres x price per litre. Cost per 100 km = blended rate x price per litre.
FAQs
Why is my real range lower? Winter tires, cold starts, roof racks, towing, and short trips all raise consumption. Many drivers plan on 10 to 15 percent less than the estimate.
Should I run the tank to empty? No. Fuel pumps rely on fuel for cooling, and winter condensation is a real issue in Canada. Treat the last quarter tank as reserve.
