Pool Volume Calculator
Work out how much water your pool holds, in litres and gallons, and what a full fill costs at your municipal water rate.
Your results
Worked example
A rectangular pool, 8 m long, 4 m wide, with an average depth of 1.5 m:
- Volume: 8 × 4 × 1.5 = 48.0 m³, which is 48,000 L
- US gallons: 48,000 ÷ 3.785 = 12,682 gal
- Imperial gallons: 48,000 ÷ 4.546 = 10,559 gal
- Fill cost at $4.00 per m³: 48 × $4.00 = $192.00
How this calculator works
One cubic metre is 1,000 litres. US gallons use 3.785 L per gallon and imperial gallons use 4.546 L per gallon. Use the average depth: add the shallow and deep end depths and divide by two.
Common questions
Why do chemical doses use US gallons?
Most pool chemical packaging sold in Canada is labelled for US gallons. This calculator shows both, so use the US gallon figure when dosing and the litre figure when talking to your water utility.
Is it cheaper to have water delivered?
For large pools, a bulk water truck is sometimes cheaper than a municipal fill once sewer charges are added, and it fills in hours instead of days. Compare the truck quote against the fill cost shown here.
