Drywall Sheet Calculator
Enter the total wall and ceiling area to cover. Get sheets, screws, compound and tape in one pass.
Worked example
50 m² of board, 4 x 8 ft sheets, 10% waste. Adjusted area is 55 m². One 4 x 8 sheet covers 2.97 m², so 55 / 2.97 = 18.5, rounded up to 19 sheets. Screws: 19 x 32 = 608 screws. Compound guidance: 50 x 0.5 L = 25 L, so 2 pails of 17 L. Tape: 50 x 1.2 m = 60 m, so 1 roll of 75 m.
How it works
Sheets = total area x (1 + waste) / sheet coverage. A 4 x 8 ft sheet covers 2.97 m² and a 4 x 12 ft sheet covers 4.46 m². Screw count assumes about 32 screws per 4 x 8 ft sheet (about 48 per 4 x 12 ft sheet), spaced roughly 30 cm apart. Compound and tape are guidance figures for taping plus two finish coats: about 0.5 L of premixed compound and about 1.2 m of joint tape per m² of board.
FAQ
Should I buy 4 x 8 or 4 x 12 sheets?
4 x 12 sheets mean fewer joints to tape on walls longer than 2.44 m, but they are heavier and harder to move through stairwells. For most rooms, 4 x 8 is the practical choice.
Does the screw count include the ceiling?
Yes. The estimate is based on total board area and sheets used, whether the sheets go on walls or ceilings. Ceilings often get screws at closer spacing, so treat the count as a minimum and buy a full box.
